On May 19th, Build to Last looks at space engineering: an industry where you don't get to fix mistakes after the fact.
We're living through a period of rapid technological change. Systems are more interconnected, expectations for performance are higher, and the consequences of getting things wrong vary wildly depending on where you're working. In most fields, a bug gets patched. In space, it doesn't.
That gap is exactly what makes space engineering so worth studying. The constraints are extreme enough that they force a kind of disciplinary clarity that's rare elsewhere: every material choice, every interface, every test protocol has to earn its place. There's no room for "good enough."
For this edition of Build to Last, we've brought in engineers from two of Norway's most experienced players in the field: Space Norway and Kongsberg Space Electronics. They'll walk us through how space systems actually get built — the decisions, the trade-offs, and the hard-won lessons — and reflect on what transfers back to those of us building technology closer to the ground.
Join us for a morning of insight, reflection, and conversation and explore what it means to build technology that lasts, from Earth to orbit.
Meet the panel
Jan Magne Andersen
Space Norway
As Department Manager for the Innovation Software Team at Space Norway, Jan Magne works at the intersection of software, satellites, and future connectivity. He leads the development of next-generation tools for satellite operations and mission planning—helping shape how we operate infrastructure in space.
With a background spanning full-stack development and consulting in the financial sector, he brings a strong product and engineering mindset into the space industry. In his talk, Jan Magne will share insights from launching a new IoT platform in orbit—what it takes to build, deploy, and operate technology where failure is not an option.
Bråd Eirik Nordbø
Kongsberg Space Electronics
As Business Development Manager at Kongsberg Space Electronics, Bård Eirik Nordbø brings a rare combination of deep technical expertise and strategic perspective. With over a decade working hands-on with RF design for space applications, he now operates closer to the market—bridging advanced engineering with real-world needs.
Having spent years developing hardware that must perform flawlessly in orbit, Bård Eirik has first-hand experience with the realities of building products for space. In his talk, he will share practical insights from the intersection of technology, product development, and market—what it really takes to bring space-grade solutions from concept to deployment.
Jorunn Øyna
Skalar
Jorunn Øyna is a strategic leader with long experience in innovation, digital transformation, and user-centered change. She has led major initiatives across sectors – from real estate and retail to aviation and public services – always with a focus on creating real value for people and organisations. Known as a bridge-builder between strategy and execution, tech and people, she brings a clear view of the big picture and a hands-on approach to collaboration.
She has extensive experience working in and leading cross-functional, hybrid teams, and focuses on helping them align around strategy, build shared direction, and create value that lasts – for users, employees, and the organisation as a whole.
Anders Hansen
Inventas
Anders Hansen works with design and business development at Inventas, where he helps bridge the gap between user needs, technology, and commercial opportunities.
With a background as a designer, Anders brings hands-on experience from product development into his current role in design sales. This combination gives him a unique perspective on how good ideas move from concept to reality — and what it takes to create solutions that are both desirable, feasible, and viable.
At Build to Last, Anders will share reflections on how insights from demanding domains like space engineering can inform better decision-making, stronger collaboration, and more robust product development here on Earth.
Join us for an inspiring session with field experts and the BTL community!
We look forward to seeing you there – make sure to reserve your seat in time.
